Discovery Behavioral Health Launches Integrated Outpatient Division and Executive Team

Discovery Behavioral Health (DBH) is rolling out a new integrated division that combines traditional, telehealth and specialized outpatient services to treat depression and substance use disorders (SUDs).

DiscoveryMD is the fourth division of Los Alamitos, California-based DBH, which operates over 130 centers in 13 states for mental health, SUD and eating disorder treatment.

DiscoveryMD will offer patients transcranial magnetic stimulation, ketamine and esketmaine therapies, addiction medicine and in-person intensive outpatient programming (IOP). The new division will initially launch in Washington, California, Maryland and Kansas, with more states to be added in the near future.

DiscoveryMD will be overseen by an executive team headed by Chris Diamond, who will serve as the division’s president and report directly to DBH President and CEO John Peloquin.

“Patients should not have to choose between only receiving traditional face-to-face therapy or strictly to telehealth,” Diamond said in a press release issued by the company. “With DiscoveryMD patients can now get the kind of care that best fits their therapeutic needs, lifestyle, preferences and even geographic location.”

A behavioral health care industry veteran, Diamond was most recently DBH’s vice president of development.

“Chris has played a vital leadership role in our company’s rapid growth during the past year through new services in response to the unprecedented need for behavioral health nationwide during the nation’s pandemic,” Peloquin said in the press release.

Along with Diamond, Monika Valentine has been appointed as DiscoveryMD’s vice president of business operations.

In her role, Valentine will build out DiscoveryMD’s specialty physician network and support the practice management of its outpatient psychiatric services.

Valentine also has previous experience as a health care director and CEO in Colorado and Florida.

“The great advantage of DiscoveryMD is the breath of its services, combining outpatient specialty services and telehealth under one umbrella,” Valentine said in the press release. “A patient will have customized programs that provide the right treatment for their needs at any given time – from highly supported, traditional therapy to highly autonomous outpatient medical solutions.”

DBH – which provides residential treatment, partial hospitalization programming and IOP at its nationwide centers – is a portfolio company of Webster Equity Partners.
