Discovery Expands to 15th State, Acquires 110-Bed Brookdale Premiere Addiction Recovery

Los Alamitos, California-based Discovery Behavioral Health has expanded into Pennsylvania with the acquisition of Brookdale Premiere Addiction Recovery. This marks the company’s 15th state market.

The Scotrun, Pennsylvania-based 110-bed residential addiction treatment facility sits on a 100-acre campus in the Pocono Mountains. Opened in 2019, the facility touts its Signature Program as “the standard for high-end luxury treatment offering a clinically sophisticated approach to care” on its website.

This is part of the growing M&A trend in the substance use disorder space. M&A advisory firm The Braff Group noted that there were 300 deals in the space between 2017 and 2021.

The facility also offers a family education program, drug and alcohol residential treatment, detox services and intervention services.

Other amenities include private & semi-private cabins, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center and walking trails, according to a news release.

“Brookdale has an excellent reputation in the industry and will be our first treatment center in Pennsylvania, expanding our footprint in the Eastern U.S.,” Discovery President and CEO John Peloquin said in the release.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Behavioral Health Properties LLC consulted Brookdale Premiere Addiction Recovery on the sale.

On April 15, Brookdale Premier Addiction Recovery announced it became an in-network facility with Aetna. The company said the move was part of its strategic growth plan. It was already in-network with Highmark BCBS, Geisinger Health Plans, Cigna and other plans.

The facility can presently support 34 detox and 76 residential patients. In April, Brookdale Premier Addiction Recovery said it would begin Phase 2 of its construction to increase its residential capacity.

In February 2021, Brookdale Premier Addiction Recovery named Amy Durham, a former Caron Treatment Centers corporate director, to the CEO post.

Discovery Behavioral Health continues its swift expansion. Discovery acquired Huntington Beach, California-based Anew Era TMS & Psychiatry in July. That deal added 12 locations to Discovery’s Texas and California footprint.

Founded in 1985, the company now operates more than 145 treatment centers. It contracts with 100 payers and managed care organizations, the release states.
Webster Equity Partners first invested in Discovery Behavioral Health in 2011, according to Webster’s website.
