American Addiction Centers (ACC) announced that Dr. David Hans and Ellen-Jo Boschert will be taking over the company as co-CEOs.
Dr. Tom Britton, who served as the CEO for nearly two years, appears to be leaving the company.
This new role is an internal promotion for both Hans and Boschert. Hans previously served as the company’s chief clinical and compliance officer. Before joining the American Addiction Centers, he served as the CEO of Haven Behavioral Hospital in Albuquerque. His resume also includes a stint as CEO of Acadia Healthcare’s Life Healing Center.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with our facilities and employees across the organization to strengthen AAC’s position as a leading addiction treatment provider, especially at a time when more people are in need of high-quality behavioral healthcare,” Dr. Hans said in a statement.
Boschert joined American Addiction Centers in 2022 as chief operating officer. In this role, she led the company’s patient care, development, and strategic direction. Before joining the organization, she served as the COO for Midwest Vision Partners.
“As one of the nation’s top addiction treatment providers, we are proud to announce that American Addiction Centers is in the hands of two of the most experienced and dedicated leaders in the industry,” Bowen Diehl, chairman of the AAC Board of Directors, said in a statement. “Ellen-Jo and Dr. Hans possess the knowledge, passion, and expertise to continue building upon our commitment to clinical excellence and our mission to provide life-changing care.”
Founded in 2007, American Addiction Centers has 10 locations in eight states. The company has had a rocky road over the last few years. In 2019, the company was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange. Shortly after, in 2020, it filed for bankruptcy. In October of that year, A Delaware court approved the company’s Chapter 11 financial restructuring.
In early 2022, the company tapped Gateway Foundation vet- Britton to serve as CEO.
