Uwill Acquires Christie Campus Health, Expands College Mental Health Services

On-campus mental health provider Uwill announced its first-ever acquisition on Tuesday.

The Natick, Massachusetts-based startup has acquired Lexington, Massachusetts-based Christie Campus Health. The latter provides counseling, mental health and wellness services to about 750,000 students at over 100 colleges, according to a news release. The terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“By combining Christie Campus Health with the sophisticated digital capabilities of the Uwill platform, we have assembled the team, technology and clinical resources to meet the diverse and growing needs of any college in the country,” Michael London, founder and CEO of Uwill, said in the release.

The deal comes after Uwill raised $30 million in May 2023 from the private equity firm Education Growth Partners. The company was founded in 2020 and has partnerships to provide mental health and wellness services, including software and a counselor team, to over 200 higher-education institutions.

The company has partnered with many educational institutions seeking to meet student demands for easier access to mental health services. Many American colleges are not equipped to take on the challenge themselves and are contracting that work out to other organizations.

One notable partnership includes a partnership with the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education that allows any of the state’s higher-learning institutions to opt into a program that allows students round-the-clock access to mental health support. The deal was announced in May 2023.

Other college-focused mental health startups have also seen high demand. TimelyCare, a Fort Worth, Texas-based company founded in 2017, is one of the nation’s fastest-growing companies in terms of revenue expansion from 2019 to 2022. Mantra Health, founded in 2018, underwent a leadership transition just before rolling out its latest major product development.
