Hazel Health Raises $51.5M to Expand In-School Pediatric Behavioral Health Services

San Francisco-based Hazel Health has landed a $51.5 million Series C1 round.

The tech-focused pediatric mental health and physical health care provider announced Thursday that it will use the new funds to fuel its national expansion, invest in its technology stack and expand its workforce.

The company closed a $33.5 million Series C round in September 2020. So far, the company has raised $112.5 million.

Hazel is prioritizing building out its staff to help fuel growth, according to Josh Golomb, CEO of Hazel.

“In order to truly address and improve attendance and quality learning time, we realized we must expand our services to offer whole child care — integrated physical and mental health care services,” Golomb said in a news release.

The company operates in 14 states and works with more than 3,000 schools, expanding Hazel Health’s reach to 2.5 million children. The company estimates that its services are accessible to more than 10% of American K-12 stories.

Hazel Health was founded by Nick Woods, Dr. Rob Darzynkiewic and Raquel Antunez as an in-school physical care provider. The company launched its mental health services in the summer of 2021.

Hazel offers mental health services in eight states in 20 school districts and provided 15,000 mental health sessions during the 2021-22 school year.

Services offered by Hazel Health are covered by a combination of insurance reimbursement, school districts and several federal initiatives that support school-based health care.

The Series C1 round included Tao Capital Partners, Owl Ventures, Firework Ventures, Children’s Memorial Hermann, and Carrie Walton Penner through Fiore Ventures, among others, according to the release.

Of late, Hazel Health has secured major deals that it’s touted. Earlier in the month, Hazel Health secured a partnership with a $3.83 million initiative with the Hawai’i State Department of Education to expand school-based health care access to 170,000 students across 295 schools. Also in October, Hazel announced a similar partnership with Memorial Hermann Health System to increase care access in Houston, Texas.

Hazel Health isn’t the only pediatric behavioral Health provider. Brightline, a virtual mental health provider focused on children, has raised $220 million. Additionally, Springtide, a technology-enabled autism services provider, raised $18.1 million in Series A funding.
